Our Guest Auditor Programme for winter semester 2022/2023 has begun and allows non-students to enjoy the academic side of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences by participating in regular lectures in a range of different fields. Nitrate Scouts project starts with kick-off workshop
On April 21, 2022, an initial kick-off workshop was held to launch the Nitrate Scouts project which aims at developing educational modules on the topic of nitrates in groundwater in cooperation with citizens and other interested actors. Infos
Media Communication and Computer Sciences student nominated for German computer game award
Mateo Covic, student of Media Communication and Computer Sciences at the Faculty of Communication and Environment, was nominated for the category "Young Talent Award- Best Prototype" and won prize money of € 25,000.
"EU FarmBook": EUREKA presents knowledge database that is unique in Europe
21 organizations from 15 countries - The "EU FarmBook" pools expertise on agricultural and rural knowledge from all over Europe in one single database. The EUREKA research group invites all interested parties to join the presentation of the pilot version of the new online knowledge resource on Wednesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 17, 2022, both from 11am to 12pm, aiming to get feedback for future improvements.
An integral part of every degree programme at the Faculty of Communication and Environment is an interdisciplinary project in the 5th semester. Rhine-Waal University’s online application portal is now open and accepting applications for enrolment in summer semester 2022. Prospective students can submit their applications for our master’s degree programmes and the bachelor’s degree in Environment and Energy, B.Sc. until 15 January 2022. The application deadline applies to all applicants regardless of country of origin who intend to commence their studies in the upcoming summer semester, which begins officially in March 2022. Infos
Once again, numerous students of the Bachelor degree programmes "Media Computing" and "E-Government" of the Faculty of Communication and Environment took part in the annual internal computer science competition for freshmen. E-Government student Sarah Schmitz was able to prevail against all fellow students and won first place.
The Faculty of Communication and Environment was very happy to welcome Kamp-Lintfort’s schoolchildren in person again for the nationwide 18th Read Aloud Day – even if they had to wear masks, and follow different safety rules.

With a ceremonial farewell in the Audimax, the Faculty of Communication and Environment honoured about 50 graduates on October 1, 2021. Embedded in a festive programme, they received their symbolic certificates from the hand of the president with best wishes for their professional futures.
Every year, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences presents the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) award for outstanding academic achievements and social commitment. This year it goes to Bachelor student Joy Okundia for her very good performance in her studies as well as her commitment to other students and the academic community.
Within the framework of the project "Sustainable Niepkuhlen", the city of Krefeld would like to invite interested citizens to exchange ideas on its future sustainability. GameLet: Promoting reading fluency in secondary schools
Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, together with partners in Germany and Europe, has developed Gamelet, a brand new learning software designed to improve the reading fluency of secondary school pupils. Using a media-based, multilingual approach in combination with gamification elements, GameLet will help address deficits in reading skills, multilingualism and media integration. The project is sponsored by the European Union through the programme ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnerships. More

In-person examinations will be held on Kamp-Lintfort Campus between Monday, July 12, and Friday, July 23, 2021 (and in exceptional cases from September 6 – 10, 2021). Important information regarding the upcoming examination period
The Faculty Council and the Dean's Office mutually decided that in the light of the current situation in-person examinations during the February examination period are not responsible for students and staff. With a heavy heart we decided that they had to be cancelled. Due to that decision, the entire examination period has to be rearranged at short notice. Please read the following information carefully.

To give children insights into their work at university and to read exciting, funny books, Professor Franca Ruhwedel and Professor Torsten Niechoj made two videos - and got active support by a hand puppet and some soft toys. Green FabLab and NABU cooperate in producing floating islands
Floating islands consist of aquatic plants that can enrich and improve the ecosystem. In a cooperation between Rhine-Waal University and NABU-Naturschutzstation Niederrhein, such islands are to be built from sustainable, durable materials using digital fabrication. The Green FabLab in Kamp-Lintfort invites pupils to construct, plant and launch them.

Students visit EU Parliament and present their data protection app
Supervised by Professor Dr. Dirk Bruckmann and Professor Dr. jur. Dieter Kopetz, students of the Faculty of Communication and Environment visited the European Parliament in Brussels and presented their "EU Data Protection App". Some EU member states have already shown great interest.
Due to the successful cooperation with students of the faculty in 2018, the ALTANA Group had again invited students to cooperate in an interdisciplinary project. In January, the second project team presented its results on the topic "Green Logistics - Reducing ALTANA's CO2 Footprint".
Beginning in winter semester 2020-20201, the degree programme E-Government at the Faculty of Communication and Environment will offer an additional, dual-vocational mode of study in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy. Minister Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart and University President Dr. Oliver Locker-Grütjen have now signed a corresponding agreement.
8th E-Government University Day has been a great success
Building on the success of previous years, the Faculty of Communication and Environment has organised its eighth E-Government University Day on the topic “Beyond Chalk - Digital Transition in Schools” on the 3rd of December 2019.

With her bachelor’s thesis the graduate from the International Business Administration programme at the Faculty of Communication and Environment took second place in the nationwide competition for the annual research prize awarded by "Gesellschaft für Immobilienwirtschaftliche Forschung (gif)".

FabLab of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences becomes test environment for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
In order to support in advancing their industry 4.0 projects, they are transferred to suitable pilot plants and demonstration factories (I4.0 test environments) across the country. The Rhine-Waal FabLab has now also been nominated for the programme.

In the scope of the competition they designed a website for one of their magazines. Student presents research results at UN Conference in Antalya
Clara Gütte, student of the bachelor's degree programme Environment and Energy at the Faculty of Communication and Environment in Kamp-Lintfort, had the opportunity present her research on the endangered seaweed Posidonia oceanica at the 6th Mediterranean Symposium on Marine Vegetation in Antalya.

Another successful Read Aloud Day on Kamp-Lintfort Campus
Again the Faculty of Communication and Environment invited primary school kids to join very special kinds of lectures. Professor Frank Zimmer and Research Assistant Andrea da Silva read exciting stories and gave insights into their work at university. Campaign to promote hands-only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Students of the Faculty of Communication and Environment cooperated with start-up business „Corevas“ in developing a campaign to promote hands-only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Three of the works, which were designed during a semester project in the bachelor’s degree programme Information and Communication Design have now been awarded. The children at the kindergarden “Wirbelwind“ in Kamp-Lintfort were delighted when they saw the amount of books and toys carried in by Professor Schürholz (Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment) and Andrea da Silva (Research Assistant). The donation was happily accepted since the kindergarden is going to increase its number of places rapidly soon. more
Student took second prize in Innovation Contest of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany
Christian Bongers, bachelor graduate from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and his team have been awarded the second prize in an innovation contest of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.
Building on the success of previous years, the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhine-Waal University is now focussing on the topic "Paper Files Go Digital – Change Management in Public Administration Institutions".

On the 14th of March participants discussed how to train children and young adults to be responsible and ethical life-long learners of the digital age. The workshop was organized by the University’s zdi Centre and the “Kompetenzteam für den Kreis Wesel”.
Multimedia Dance Performance at Duisburg's "Akzente" Festival
Supervised by Prof. Iurgel, the Faculty's Media Computing Group has again successfully cooperated with theatre producer Max Bilitza. Together with a team of international as well as regional dancers and artists they have developed their second multimedia dance performance which is now going to be part of the 39th "Akzente" festival in Duisburg.
Students of the Faculty visit Green FabLab in Barcelona
In January 2018 four students of the degree programms "Media Communication and Computer Sciences" as well as "Industrial and Organizational Psychology" visited the world's one and only Green FabLab in Barcelona. The excursion was part of an interdisciplinary project, supervised by Professor Dr Becker and Professor Dr Jörg Tiedemann.
Design students of the Faculty of Communication and Environment develop new logotype for the city of Wesel. The three best designs have now been awarded.

Media Computing Gruppe der Hochschule Rhein-Waal erstellt Videokunst zu Carmina Burana
Im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zu 775 Stadt Kleve hat die Städtische Singgemeinde am vergangenen Samstag, den 10. Juni 2017, zu einem besonderen Konzert in die Stadthalle Kleve eingeladen: unter Mitwirkung von 150 Sängerinnen und Sängern und einem 55-köpfigen Orchester wurde Carl Orffs "Carmina Burana" aufgeführt. Eine besondere Unterstützung erfuhr das Konzert durch Studierende der Hochschule Rhein-Waal.
Student team wins NRW final of the "Accenture Campus Innovation Challenge“
The interdisciplinary team of the Faculty of Communication and Environment won against other teams from Hamburg, Cologne and Meschede and brought their victory back to Kamp-Lintfort. With their winning project of a computer-generated secretary, the team will now enter the international final with teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. All members of Rhine-Waal University will keep their fingers crossed.

6th E-Government University Day has been a great success
Building on the success of previous years, the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhine-Waal University has organised its sixth E-Government University Day on the topic “Digital Agenda” on the 1st of December 2016.
Professor Dr Frank Zimmer has been recognized as one of the best professors in Germany. UNICUM BERUF, a popular magazine for university graduates in Germany, has selected him as the second best Professor of the Year 2016 for the category ’Engineering / Computer Science’.

The Land of North Rhine-Westphalia will be providing nearly four million euros in financial support towards the development of a 3D Competency Centre on the Kamp-Lintfort Campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, as well as the realisation of a collaborative ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship Offensive’ involving researchers from the University.

Rhine-Waal student wins distinction in design competition of the Frankfurt Book Fair
285 designs from a total of 19 universities were submitted to the 2016 ‘Wettbewerb für junge Gestalter’ design competition organised by the Frankfurt Book Fair. Student Alexander Altrichter’s design was one of ten selected for destinction by the jury.

Untersuchung zweigt Schwachstellen bei kommunalen Webseiten auf
Eine kürzlich gestartete Untersuchung im Rahmen eines Projektes der Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland in Kooperation mit dem Labor für IT-Sicherheit der Hochschule Rhein-Waal zeigte, dass der öffentliche Sektor bei der Absicherung der Webseiten schludert.

5th E-Government University Day has been a great success
Building on the success of previous years, the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhine-Waal University has organised its fifth E-Government University Day on the topic “IT-Security: A Challenge for Public Administration – New Prospects for Young IT Talents” on the 17th of November 2015.

The design of the Kamp-Lintfort Campus was recognised with an esteemed German Design Award. Since its unveiling in April 2014, the campus has been awarded four times for its unique and aesthetic design.
Change is coming to the Bergwerk West in Kamp-Lintfort: renovation efforts have begun in the landmarked storage building of the historic Kamp-Lintfort colliery. The goal of the renovation is to modernise and convert the rooms for use by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Recycling ocean waste into clothing will be the interesting focus of this semester’s kickoff lecture in Studium Generale on Wednesday, 21 October at 6pm in Building 1, 2nd floor, room 105 on the Kamp-Lintfort Campus (Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, 47475 Kamp-Lintfort). The lecture will be held in English and is free to attend for all.

Ethics Day at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be hold the “Festival of the Good Life – In welcher Gesellschaft wollen wir leben?”, a day dedicated to ethics and ethical issues, on October 7, 2015 on the Kamp-Lintfort Campus. In numerous lectures, presentations and workshops, the festival will provide a critical look at our current social systems with regard to ethical behaviour and socially-responsible business practices.
Semester start at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
On 21 September 2015 Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences kicked off its 2015 orientation week with a warm welcome for new students in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. The University will start the winter semester 2015/2016 with a projected 6,000 new and returning students.

In Summer School: Storytelling, Digital Media & Museums, 30 young researchers from around the world will gather in a six-day workshop to develop and discuss new digital teaching methods inspired by the artist Joseph Beuys. The workshop will be held from 13 to 19 September in Museum Schloss Moyland.

Absolventenverabschiedung 2015 an der Hochschule Rhein-Waal
Die Hochschule Rhein-Waal freut sich über ihre diesjährigen Bachelor- und Masterabsolventen. Im Rahmen einer feierlichen Absolventenverabschiedung mit anschließendem Sektempfang wurden 260 Studierende am 12. Juni 2015 in der Stadthalle Kleve und im Audimax des Campus Kamp-Lintfort mit den besten Wünschen für die Zukunft in das Berufsleben entlassen.
30 Studierende des Bachelorstudiengangs „Mobility and Logistics” der Fakultät Kommunikation und Umwelt der Hochschule Rhein-Waal besuchten im Rahmen einer Lehrveranstaltung im fünften Semester den Flughafen in Düsseldorf.

Professor Dr. Freda-Marie Hartung, Professor of Personality Psychology and Career Aptitude Diagnosis at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will hold the talk in German on June 2, 2015 at 6:00 pm on the Kamp-Lintfort Campus.
Unternehmen suchen Fachkräfte, Studierende Plätze für Praktika oder Themen für Abschlussarbeiten. Beim Speed-Dating vom Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e. V. und der Hochschule kommen beide Seiten zusammen. 70 Studierende und 15 Unternehmen vom Niederrhein lernten sich auf diese Weise am 6. Mai 2015 auf dem Campus Kamp-Lintfort im 10-Minuten-Takt kennen.
As of the 1st of May, 2015, Dr. Heide Naderer is the new president of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Dr. Naderer was nominated for the post by the University Council in autumn 2014 and confirmed by the University Senate shortly thereafter.

Die "Stiftung Standort- und Zukunftssicherung Kreis Wesel" unterstützt das zdi-Zentrum (Zukunft durch Innovation) Kamp-Lintfort durch die Anschaffung von 3D-Druckern für Keramik und Schokolade mit 24.000 Euro. Geplant werden auch gemeinsame Informations- und Fortbildungsveranstaltungen zu dieser Zukunftstechnologie.
Agricultural reforms and consequences for the agricultural sector
As part of the Studium Generale lecture series for summer semester 2015, Elisabeth Verhaag, Expert for Nature Conservation in the North Rhine-Westphalian Chamber of Agriculture, will present on the topic ‘New Frameworks in the new Funding Period – Consequences for the Agricultural Sector’ on Tuesday, April 21 at 6:00 pm on the Kamp-Lintfort Campus (Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, Building 01, 2nd floor, room 01 02 105). The talk will be held in German, and is free to attend.

As part of a co-operative effort with the real estate development and management firm RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH, the city of Kamp-Lintfort organised a logo design competition for students of the Information and Communication Design programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
On April 23, 2015, pupils from around the region will have the opportunity to participate in Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. This event is designed to give young people valuable glimpses into degrees and career paths that they might not have considered for the future.
