“We’re booked solid this year,” reports Dipl-Ing Brigitte Jansen, managing director of the event organiser and economic development centre ‘wir4’. “This accomplishment highlights the importance of our efforts to encourage future generations of professionals through the common action of business and academia, thus ensuring the continued economic success of our region into the future.”

Regional companies present themselves and their opportunities at ‘connect me’, a expo for pupils, students and young professionals from around the region.

The third-annual ‘connect me’ expo will be held on the Kamp-Lintfort Campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on 28 September 2016. Future professionals from around the region will have the opportunity to meet and greet representatives from manufacturing, trades, the commercial and the service industries, gathering insight into new and oftentimes unfamiliar career fields and learning more about internship opportunities. While many of the 45 registered companies have been involved with ‘connect me’ from the very start, several renowned newcomers are also expected, including Dr. Oetker, TROX and Almatec.

With ‘connect me’, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, sci:Moers, LINEG, Asdonkshof and wir4 – the main organisers of the expo – have developed a interesting way to motivate and encourage networking between visitors and participants. Pupils, for example, can participate in a race that requires them to answer questions about the participating companies. Attractive prizes will also be raffled off, including a glider flight, headphones from Urbanears and gift certificates to the sporting goods store Sportpalast.

“Our goal with ‘connect me’ is to give our students hunting for internships the opportunity to meet and network with companies from around the region. We put particular emphasis on our useful support programme, which includes application quick-checks and presentations on the benefits of dual-vocational study programmes,” describes Professor Dr Ruhwedel (Finance and Controlling) of the Faculty of Communication and Environment in Kamp-Lintfort.

The expo will commence at 9:30 a.m. with welcome addresses from Professor Dr Marion Halfmann, the University’s Vice-President for Studies, Teaching and Continuing Training; Professor Dr Christoph Landscheidt, the mayor of Kamp-Lintfort; and Brigitte Jansen, the head of wir4. The main event will kick off at 10 a.m. Booths will be open until 5 p.m. and are located on-campus in both the main auditorium building and the canteen.

No registration is required. For more information about participating companies, please visit www.connect-me.info.
