Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers an international learning environment with numerous English-taught degree programmes and students from all over the world. The degree programmes are practice-oriented and specifically designed to prepare you for your career.
Studying in Germany requires a high degree of self-organisation. You plan your own timetable, prepare for and follow up on lectures, and organise your day-to-day student life independently.

Application and admission
If you would like to study at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, you must first apply for a degree programme. The application process usually involves the following steps:
- Choose a degree programme
- Check the entry requirements
- Apply online
- Receive admission
- Enrolment
Depending on the degree programme and your country of origin, additional requirements may apply, such as language proficiency or further supporting documents. You should therefore find out about the entry requirements for your chosen degree programme well in advance on the relevant page.
Before you arrive
Before you travel to Germany, there are a few important things you should sort out. These include, for example:
- Visa and entry: Find out about the regulations applicable to your home country. Any necessary visas must be applied for in advance of your arrival at the relevant German diplomatic mission abroad. You can find further information, for example, on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
- Health insurance: Proof of health insurance is required for enrolment. Please note that the fee is often due even if you are not yet in Germany. You can enquire about the exact details with your health insurance provider.
- Funding your studies: Find out about the costs of studying and living in Germany. Plan your finances, especially for the first few months, before you arrive!
- Finding accommodation: In Germany, students must find their own flat; securing a place at university does not automatically guarantee you accommodation. Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences does not provide its own accommodation. You can find further information on the website under the heading ‘Accommodation’.
- Preparing for your arrival: Make sure you have accommodation, especially for the first few days.
Good preparation will make your start in Germany much easier.
After you arrive
Once you arrive in Germany, there are a few administrative tasks to take care of:
- Registering with the Residents’ Registration Office: Once you have moved into your new home, you must register your address with the relevant Residents’ Registration Office or Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
- Apply for a residence permit: You must apply for a residence permit at the Immigration office responsible for your place of residence.
- Open a bank account: A German bank account is necessary, amongst other things, to transfer money from a blocked account to it.
- Getting to know the campus: The campus at both locations is open to the public, so you can always get a first impression. You can also take advantage of our services for new students.
