Student took second prize in Innovation Contest of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany

The collaboration between Christian Bongers, graduate of Media Communication and Computer Science at Rhine-Waal University, and the Federal Statistical Office of Germany has been most successful. Their project “The G20 in Numbers“ has now been awarded the second prize in an innovation contest of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany. The first place went to a team who explored the implementation of machine learning in business statistics.

Christian Bongers, owns a bachelor degree in Media Communication and Computer Science and is now a master student of the Digital Media degree programme at Rhine-Waal University. Within the team he was responsible for concept and its technical implementation. The innovative project aims at preparing infographics visually in such a way that they are easily understandable, sorting results according to individual search criteria.

The Jury praised the digital publication because it is “an important innovation in making statistical data understandable to a wide variety of audiences, taking current information behaviour into account. It can be regarded as a prototype when it comes to future visualizations and publications of statistical data.”
