University staff donates toys to kindergarden in Kamp-Lintfort

The children at the kindergarden “Wirbelwind“ in Kamp-Lintfort were delighted when they saw the amount of books and toys carried in by Professor Schürholz (Dean at the Faculty of Communication and Environment) and Andrea da Silva (Research Assistant). The donation was happily accepted since the kindergarden is going to increase its number of places rapidly by the end of summer.

The toys had been collected by the University‘s staff members for Open Day in June 2018. According to the day’s topic of sustainability, the Faculty of Communication and Environment had organised a toy swap where children had the chance to get rid of some unused toys and pick up some "new" ones to enjoy at no cost. At the same time they learned about sustainable consumption.

Andrea Jansen, who is going to join the team of pre-school teachers in August 2018, had visited the University’s Open Day with her daughter wanting to get an insight into the degree programmes on offer. When talking to the University’s staff at the toy swap about the kindergarden’s rapid growth, it was soon decided that all left over toys were going to be donated for support.

"In August 2018 we will teach eight classes in three different buildings", says Alexandra Krause, pre-school Director. "We will then have 163 children to take care of. They will surely enjoy all these great toys." Professor Schürholz, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment, appreciates the good cooperation with the city of Kamp-Lintfort and its different institutions: "We want to be a reliable partner in supporting our local area and communities".
