Join us on the third ACCESSATHON from June 1-3, 2018.
We would like to invite all people of all kinds of professions, with or without disability, to join our ACCESSATHON workshop from 1st to 3rd of June on the Kamp-Lintfort campus.
In summer semester 2017 we started our series of open hackathons on accessibility at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. During our ACCESSATHON (Accessibility + Hackathon) events, we work several days in a row to develop ideas and solutions that make life with disabilities easier or more enjoyable.
We aim at developing innovative solutions using state-of-the-art technologies like additive manufacturing (e.g. 3D printing), artificial intelligence or augmented reality. Precision tools (3D-scanners, lasercutter, CNC) and modern software help us to create concepts and prototypes.
Another important goal is to bring together people with and without disabilities to communicate needs and to make people aware of the importance of accessibility in all areas of life. Our concept is highly interdisciplinary and all participants are welcome to contribute their knowledge and skills, be it creativity, technology know-how or personal experience.
More than 15 great projects have been developed so far and the feedback we got from participants and audience has been very good. A lot of personal friendships were made and partnerships with similar projects in and outside the region were initiated.
For the purpose of inclusion and the dissemination of results, most of the communication is in English.
How can I contribute?
If you are an expert, e.g. for a particular technology, or working on a project that could be of interest to the targeted audience you are welcome to participate.
Your contribution ideally includes the following:
• A keynote speech (15 - 20 minutes) on Friday.
• Support of the teams that want to work with the technology you have introduced over the weekend, or otherwise benefit from your expertise.
We look forward to your e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please send us an abstract of your presentation and a photo that we can publish in the programme on our website. Deadline for submissions is the 20th of May 2018.
The talks will take place on Friday afternoon, the 1st of June.
Unfortunately, our donation-dependent budget does not allow renumeration, but we gladly compensate your travel and accommodation expenses. Please also let us know if you have special needs.
