Join us on the fourth ACCESSATHON from May 10-12, 2019.

We would like to invite all people of all kinds of professions, with or without disability, to join our ACCESSATHON workshop from 10th to 12th of May 2019 on the Kamp-Lintfort campus.

In summer semester 2017 we started our series of open hackathons on accessibility at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. During our ACCESSATHON (Accessibility + Hackathon) events, we work several days in a row to develop ideas and solutions that make life with disabilities easier or more enjoyable.

We aim at developing innovative solutions using state-of-the-art technologies like additive manufacturing (e.g. 3D printing), artificial intelligence or augmented reality. Precision tools (3D-scanners, lasercutter, CNC) and modern software help us to create concepts and prototypes.

Another important goal is to bring together people with and without disabilities to communicate needs and to make people aware of the importance of accessibility in all areas of life. Our concept is highly interdisciplinary and all participants are welcome to contribute their knowledge and skills, be it creativity, technology know-how or personal experience.

Lots of great projects have been developed so far and the feedback we got from participants and audience has been very good. A lot of personal friendships were made and partnerships with similar projects in and outside the region were initiated.

For the purpose of inclusion and the dissemination of results, most of the communication is in English.

How can I participate?

Take part in a potentially life changing experience!

There are many challenges around accessibility we can undertake during the hackathon. Learn more about different impairments and find out how technology and creativity can help the people affected.

You don't need to be an expert to join! In the creative process you will discover a topic you are especially interested in and might find something in your own experience that is unexpectedly helpful.

Our experience tells us that everyone has a valuable set of skills and knowledge to generate creative ideas. We have also gathered a lot of ideas you can work on in case you need more input to start.

If you are working on a related project that you would like to present or have an amazing idea but no coworkers yet, feel free to contact us by Email to contact@accessathon.org. We have planned some time for spontaneous pitches.

Admission is free of charge but as always, we kindly ask you to register and read our Code Of Conduct to ensure that all participants are feeling safe and comfortable.

We are looking forward to seeing you!

Your Accessathon Team
