Professor Dr Hans-Jörg Schulze LL.M. delivers inaugural lecture as Honorary Professor at Rhine-Waal University

On 18 December 2024, Professor Dr Hans-Jörg Schulze LL.M. delivered his inaugural lecture as the first honorary professor at the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Hochschule Rhein-Waal. In their opening remarks, the President of the University, Professor Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen, and the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr Klaus Hegemann, praised the long-standing and close collaboration between Professor Dr Schulze and the institution.

Professor Dr Schulze has been supporting the university for over 12 years in the Environment and Energy programme and was appointed honorary professor in winter semester 2024/2025. With his international expertise and his passion for practice-oriented teaching in an interdisciplinary context, he fits perfectly with the profile of Rhine-Waal University.

In his inaugural lecture, Professor Dr Schulze focused on the topic of "Producer responsibility as a key regulatory tool for enforcing the polluter pays principle" and explained the importance of these legal mechanisms in fostering sustainable and responsible production and disposal practices.

Following the lecture, there was an opportunity for an engaging exchange, which met with great interest from the attending guests, students, and faculty members, allowing for further discussion on the topic and Professor Dr Schulze’s approach to practical, interdisciplinary teaching.

Professor Dr Schulze is the first honorary professor at the Faculty of Communication and Environment, marking an important milestone in strengthening the connection between theory and practice at Rhine-Waal University.
