Nitrate Scouts project starts with kick-off workshop

On April 21, 2022, an initial kick-off workshop was held to launch the Nitrate Scouts project which aims at developing educational modules on the topic of nitrates in groundwater in cooperation with citizens and other interested actors.

After an introduction of participants, partners from the fields of agriculture, vegetable cultivation, education, water disposal, and water quality exchanged views on the framework conditions and possible contents of the modules. The topics that were discussed included sustainable agriculture, simple nitrate tests, possibilities of data analysis, targeted fertilization, preservation of humus in the soil, and preservation of biological diversity. Key questions of the meeting were how to get people involved in these topics and how to attract their interest in sustainable solutions.

The project is funded by Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt
