You earned your bachelor’s degree in Vietnam. What have been the reasons for your decision to do your master’s at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences?

Your question reminds me of the summer of 2011 when I received two admission letters from both Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. What a difficult choice! Due to the fact that Rhine-Waal University was newly established in 2009, the main difference between these two universities at that time was that the first one was more well-established and therefore had a higher ranking than the second. However, finally, with a strong feeling that I would have great opportunities for my future career at this new but internationally-oriented university, I enrolled at Rhine-Waal University to pursue higher education in Germany.

Well, taking into account the completion of my studies as best master’s graduate of the Faculty in 2015, and my acceptance as a PhD candidate at Rhine-Waal University, next to working as a degree program manager for the master’s program Economics and Finance, I would say that choosing this University was one of my best decisions I have made so far.

As you have just mentioned, after finishing your studies in Economics and Finance you stayed at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences to work as a scientific assistant and degree program manager for this master’s degree. What motivated your decision?

I very much like the Kleve Campus of Rhine-Waal University. During my four years at the Faculty of Economics and Society, as a bachelor and then a master’s degree student, I met many great people here. Therefore, I thought it would be great if I could, on the one hand, make substantial contributions to the development of the University and on the other hand, help prospective international students to successfully complete their studies at this University. This thought has continuously motivated me to try my best. It inspired me to graduate at the top of my class and it encouraged me to apply for a scientific job at the University. In fact, I am currently working as a degree program manager of the master’s program of Economics and Finance, which is just lovely!

What are your tasks as a scientific assistant?

I am independently leading two lectures in the master’s program, doing research for the completion of my PhD thesis, and as a degree program manager I am also responsible for counseling tasks such as providing guidance on the degree program and organizing study courses.

And what do you enjoy most about your job?

Most of all I enjoy teaching and supporting students.

Do you intend to stay at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences permanently or what other career steps would be interesting for you as a follow-up?

I would like to obtain a doctoral degree in Economics within the next three years. Then I would like to go back to working in a business environment for a few years before applying for a professorship at a university of applied sciences.

You’ve known Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences since 2011. Which changes and developments have you witnessed in those six years?

The growth and great development of all the Faculties of the University in terms of international students, programs offered as well as facilities available are among the most striking changes. For example, the Tropical Greenhouse of the Faculty of Life Sciences with its botanical garden is very unique and impressive. I am proud to be an alumna and now part of the scientific staff of Rhine-Waal University.

Let’s take a moment to reminisce about your time as a student. What is your best memory?

I have so many good memories about my time as a student that it is difficult to say which one is the best. But I remember well the day I took my little daughter to one of my lectures in the master’s program in the summer semester 2013. At that time she was 5 years old. She sat in the classroom like the other students did, but kept painting and painting while the professor kept teaching and my fellow students and I were busy taking notes from the lecture.
