Students and professors from Kazakhstan visit the HSRW
As part of an exchange programme funded by the DAAD, a group of 10 students from the German-Kazakh University (DKU) in Almaty / Kazakhstan, led by Alexander Ten, visited the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences during the week of 5 June 2023. In an extensive programme, the students discussed with students of the study programme "International Relations" and informed themselves in lectures by Alexander Brand, Anne Tempel, Imke Hans and Jakob Lempp about the study of International Relations in Germany.

Prof. Dr. Marjan Alemzadeh gives lecture on educational potential of learning workshops
What are the educational potentials of learning workshops and what attitude should the professionals adopt? Prof. Dr. Marjan Alemzadeh answered these and many other questions as part of the free lecture series of the Niedersächsischen Instituts für frühkindliche Bildung und Entwicklung "Mitmachen mit allen Sinnen". In her lecture, Prof. Dr. Marjan Alemzadeh reported on the concept and experiences of the KLEX learning workshop she leads at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

The Creative Writing Workshop visits the artist´s workroom of the stone sculptor Christoph Wilmsen-Wiegmann
On April 15, 2023, the students partaking the Creative Writing Workshop on the faculty of Society and Economics together with their lecturer Renate Schmitz-Gebel visited Christoph Wilmsen-Wiegmann´s artist´s workroom lying amidst meadows and fields. Here in Kalkar-Appeldorn the well-known stone sculptor is working for 40 years. Just like Christoph Wilmsen-Wiegmann delicately opens stones to make them permeable for light and glances, the people opened themselves on that day by writing, listening, and speaking in many different languages and showed themselves as permeable for new experience, feelings, and exchange.

1st Winter School at the Faculty of Society and Economics: Inclusive Water Management in Southern Africa for Improving Gender Equality and Reducing Poverty & Vulnerability
Last March 13-17, the five-day winter school on “Inclusive Water Management in Southern Africa for Improving Gender Equality and Reducing Poverty & Vulnerabil” was held for the first time. The winter school simulates a situation in which the participating students belong to a team of experts in the fields of gender and poverty that has accepted the invitation to come to Eswatini for a one-week visit in order to advice on how to make water management in Eswatini more inclusive in relation to gender and poverty & vulnerability.

In the series "Empirische Studien zur Parteienforschung", the book "Parteianhängerschaft in Deutschland - Eine Analyse der Parteien und ihrer Anhängerschaften in Bund und Ländern" by Jakob Lempp, Oliver Serfling and Jan Niklas Rolf was published by Springer in March 2023.
Visit of the Creative Writing Workshop at the Städtisches Museum Kalkar
Students from the Creative Writing Workshop at the Faculty of Society and Economics visited the exhibition "Stone Sculptures" at the Städtisches Museum Kalkar together with their lecturer Renate Schmitz-Gebel on 14 January 2023. As with every excursion, they had pens and paper in their luggage. Writing, they approached the works of art made of stone, created by Anna Kubach-Wilmsen and Wolfgang Kubach.

Im Software Engineering, einer Teildisziplin der Informatik, geht es darum, Softwareprojekte durch ingenieurmäßiges Vorgehen erfolgreich zum Abschluss zu bringen. Große Softwareprojekte können beispielsweise die Digitalisierung der Finanzverwaltung eines Bundeslandes, der Warenwirtschaft und Logistiksteuerung einer Supermarktkette oder der Produkt- und Vertragsverwaltung eines Versicherungsunternehmens sein. Derartige Innovationsprojekte und Softwaresysteme sind äußerst komplex und aufgrund ihrer digitalen Natur kognitiv schwer zu erfassen.

Der Sommer steht in den Startlöchern, es wird wärmer und Pflanzen tragen erste Früchte oder Blüten. Auch heimische Vögel sind zu dieser Jahreszeit sehr aktiv und mit etwas Geduld kann man Vogeleltern bei der Aufzucht ihrer Jungvögel beobachten. Durch die fortschreitende Urbanisierung haben es Vögel allerdings zunehmend schwerer, Nistplätze, Futter und geeignete Lebensräume zu finden – auch vor unserer Haustür.
