Sustainable use of natural resources

The world’s natural resources are finite, and many of the raw materials used to date are slowly running out. Those wishing to study Biological Resources are tackling precisely this global challenge. There is a need for well-trained specialists who can contribute to the sustainable utilisation of existing resources (such as soil, plants, animals and marine habitats) and the development of new sources of raw materials for a bio-based economy.

In our English-taught Master’s degree programme in Biological Resources (M.Sc.) at the Kleve campus, you will learn to evaluate this potential scientifically. The degree programme, with its strong focus on research and practical application, combines natural science perspectives in an interdisciplinary manner with engineering sciences and the bioeconomy.

If you decide to study Biological Resources at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, you will benefit from state-of-the-art laboratories, the tropical greenhouse on campus and close collaboration with industry. This will provide you with the perfect preparation for the development of bio-based products and activities in the applied bioeconomy. A particular highlight: through our ‘Double Degree’ programme, you even have the chance to earn an international double degree!

A bachelor's degree is a first professionally qualifying degree. A master's degree builds on a bachelor's degree with a deeper study of specific areas and greater specialisation.

Our degree programmes differ in terms of duration, schedule and amount of practical experience depending on the chosen mode of study: full-time, part-time or dual study.
Standard study duration
3 semesters
How long it takes to graduate if everything goes according to plan. A semester is six months.
Entry requirements
Unrestricted admission (no Numerus Clausus)
Unrestricted: enrolment is possible for nearly every German Abitur; international qualifications require verification first. Restricted: slots are distributed via a selection process.

English
All courses and exams are offered in the language of instruction. Proof of proficiency may be required for admission.

The summer semester starts officially on 1 March, the winter semester on 1 September. The start of lectures varies.

From agroecology to aquaponics: put your knowledge into practice straight away, conduct research in the tropical greenhouse or through close research partnerships with local businesses.
