Want to apply? It’s really easy with us!
Here at HSRW, we want to make things as easy as possible for you. Our application forms are short and straightforward – no registration is required, and you can submit them in just a few minutes. This applies to all our vacancies! If you’re applying for a professorship, you’ll then go through a different selection process in accordance with legal requirements. We explain the exact procedure for this on our subpage for professorships.

More than just a job – our benefits
To ensure you get off to a good start with us, we’ll guide you through a structured onboarding process. Our aim is to help you find your feet right from the start, get to know your team and quickly settle into your new working environment. In the administration, library and technical departments, you’ll be assigned a personal contact person right from the start – your buddy. Your buddy will support you during your first few weeks with organisational queries, show you key procedures and help you find your feet in everyday university life. But open-minded teams and tailored induction support await you throughout the university as well. In addition, you’ll get to know the university’s key organisational units across different departments through various formats, such as our e-learning courses. This will quickly give you an overview of the structures, work processes and the people you’ll be working with. With this comprehensive package, we aim to give you a good start and ensure that you quickly feel part of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
With us, you can work flexibly: up to 60% of your working hours can be spent working from home or on the move. This allows you to achieve a better work-life balance, focus on your tasks and be part of our team. The necessary technical equipment will, of course, be provided for you. (In the research sector, different arrangements regarding flexible working hours may apply depending on the staff group.)
HSRW has been recognised as a family-friendly employer since 2014. Following a thorough assessment process by the Bertelsmann Foundation, we were awarded the quality seal and successfully recertified in 2017 and 2020. Because we place great importance on achieving a good work-life balance, you’ll benefit from flexible working time arrangements, part-time options and the opportunity to work remotely. In addition, our Family Service provides you with practical support in your day-to-day life: You’ll receive professional advice and help finding childcare solutions through the PME Family Service. For short-term childcare needs, fully equipped parent-and-child rooms and mobile play boxes are available directly at your workplace. Furthermore, our Parents’ Café encourages regular discussion and networking within the university.
We support your personal and professional development. Through bespoke professional development programmes and our wide range of language courses, you can continually expand your knowledge and discover new skills. We actively support you in achieving your career goals and helping you to flourish within the university’s international environment.
At the same time, you’ll benefit from the reliable advantages of public sector employment – tailored to your status. As a staff member covered by the collective agreement, you’ll receive fair remuneration in line with the TV-L collective agreement and an annual bonus. You also have the option to deliberately opt for attractive additional benefits such as the university’s pension scheme (VBL) or capital-forming benefits. As a civil servant, you’ll benefit from a transparent salary structure – in which the former special payment is already attractively integrated into your monthly basic salary – a generous family allowance for married staff and parents, and a reliable pension provision. This allows you to fulfil your potential and look to the future with peace of mind in the long term.
Would you like to know the exact details? You can find the current tables and details on remuneration and salaries clearly set out by the State Office for Salaries and Pensions (LBV) of North Rhine-Westphalia – we have also summarised specific details on the salary structure for professors on our dedicated subpage for professors.
Your wellbeing is important to us. Our workplace health management programme ensures that you feel completely at ease at HSRW, both professionally and personally. We actively support you in maintaining a balance between work and wellbeing.
A real highlight is our university sports programme, which is available to you at both campuses – in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort – as the perfect way to unwind from your working day. Choose flexibly from over 50 different sports: from fitness and dance classes such as yoga or Zumba, through to team sports and water sports, there’s something for everyone. You can also use the university’s own sports facilities and benefit from live digital classes for working from home, as well as our ‘Active Break’ programme. Together with ergonomic workstations and preventative health courses, we offer you the ideal environment to stay fit, motivated and healthy in the long term.
As well as physical activity, our university’s music programme – featuring a choir, orchestra and bands – provides the perfect creative balance to your working day. At the same time, we strengthen our sense of togetherness and our vibrant university community through regular highlights such as our big annual summer festival and joint team events, which offer you the perfect opportunity to network. To ensure you feel at home here – not just at work but in every way – our region also boasts an exceptionally high quality of life and affordable housing. Kleve charms with its idyllic rural setting close to the Netherlands, whilst the beautiful town of Kamp-Lintfort offers plenty of nature combined with urban charm and highlights such as Kamp Abbey.
Right on the premises, fresh and varied: our canteens in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort offer you a wide selection of delicious and healthy dishes. Whether you’re popping in quickly between meetings, relaxing during your lunch break or catching up with colleagues – this is a great place to enjoy a meal and spend time together. Every day, you can look forward to a varied selection, ranging from regional classics and vegetarian and vegan options to crisp salads and snacks. It’s the ideal place to recharge your batteries and get together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Getting to work on the days you’re on site is just as straightforward. To ensure your journey to campus is completely stress-free, you’ll benefit from excellent public transport links at both locations, as well as plenty of free staff car parks right on the doorstep.
Do you have any important questions?
We’d like to get to know you as authentically as possible. It’s best to find out in advance about the requirements for the relevant vacancy on our careers website. Prepare your documents – such as your CV, certificates and cover letter – carefully, and show us why you’re keen to join HSRW and how you’d like to contribute to our values and goals. Please note: If you are applying for a professorship, further specific documents (such as a teaching and research proposal or a list of publications) may be required, depending on the vacancy. As for the interview itself: just be yourself! We’re not just interested in your professional qualifications, but also in the person behind the CV. Feel free to find out more in advance on our website about our current developments and your future organisational unit.
As we are a state university, we attach the utmost importance to fair, transparent and legally sound procedures. Once the application deadline has passed, we carefully review all documents. As the statutory representative bodies – such as the academic and non-academic staff councils, the Equal Opportunities Officer and, where applicable, the representatives for people with severe disabilities and the youth and trainee representatives (JAV) – are involved in our process, the procedure from the publication of the vacancy to the appointment usually takes several weeks to a few months.
Please note: Due to strict legal requirements, a different, multi-stage procedure applies to appointments to a professorship. This very thorough process – which involves setting up an appointment committee, conducting trial lectures and obtaining external expert opinions – usually takes several months.
Whichever position you apply for, we will get back to you as soon as possible!
Absolutely! Our official certification as a family-friendly employer since 2014 shows just how serious we are about this. With us, working conditions adapt flexibly to whatever stage of life you’re at.
Your induction will take place directly within your new organisational unit and will be fully tailored to your future area of responsibility. Your new colleagues will guide you step by step through your daily tasks, systems and internal processes, so that you can quickly feel confident in your new role. It’s important to us that you can settle in without any pressure and ask questions – we won’t leave you to fend for yourself. This role-specific induction is perfectly complemented by our overarching, structured onboarding programme (such as our e-learning modules and information materials), ensuring you get off to the best possible start, both professionally and personally.
As part of our team at HSRW, you’ll benefit from attractive working conditions that make your day-to-day life easier and support your development.
