Food Science, MSc

“From Farm to Fork”

Hardly any other product group plays such a significant role in our daily lives as food and drink. Those wishing to study food science take a close look at this complex value chain – ‘from farm to fork’. In addition to the production of raw materials in agriculture and their processing in the food industry, this also encompasses logistics, sensory analysis and ensuring food safety for consumers.

In our German-taught Master’s programme in Food Science (M.Sc.) at the Kleve campus, you will approach the product ‘food’ from a strongly scientific and technological perspective. If you decide to study Food Science at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, you will benefit from a highly interdisciplinary mix of biology, chemistry and agricultural sciences, combined with quality management, product development and nutritional physiology.

Through application-oriented research projects in small groups and your Master's thesis – which is very often carried out in direct collaboration with companies in the food industry – you will be optimally prepared for your future career from the very first semester.

Why study Food Science, MSc at Rhine-Waal?

Three students in white lab coats and hairnets are standing by a large stainless-steel mixing unit. One student is holding a measuring flask containing red fruits, whilst a fellow student is working at the unit with a smile on her face.

Entire value chain

From farm to table: Develop a multidisciplinary understanding of food production, processing, logistics and quality.
A group of three students, wearing hairnets and white lab coats, are working together to operate a complex industrial stainless-steel plant in the university’s laboratory.

Interdisciplinary profile

Biology, chemistry and agricultural sciences combined with modern quality management, food safety, sensory analysis and nutritional physiology.
Three students in lab coats and hairnets are working intently together on the valves and fittings of a large stainless-steel bioreactor in the pilot plant.

Maximum practical relevance

Learn a practical approach in our state-of-the-art laboratories, at our pilot plant and through projects carried out directly with the food industry.
