At the alumni reunion for the degree programmes and at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on 12 May, over 90 former students came together – a record turnout for this event. Initiated by an alumnus, the reunion focused on the development of the degree programmes and feedback from alumni. Lecturers presented data and developments, and the emphasis was on networking and interaction between alumni and current students, with a view to strengthening ties with the university.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of Studies, Professor Simon. Professor Schumachers, as Head of the QUSH degree programme, began by presenting the trends in student numbers at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and within the QUSH degree programme. In her brief presentation, Professor Moenickes (Head of the Bio Science and Health degree programme) addressed the two key questions: ‘What has become of the degree programme?’ and ‘What has become of you?’
She reported on how the curriculum has changed since the programme began and presented findings from the graduate survey, which overall paint a positive picture. The buffet was then opened, and most of the evening was devoted to conversation, networking, catching up and making new contacts. “It is very important for us to foster the connection between alumni and students at the university, and to have a way of staying in touch with them so that this network can be of benefit to everyone,” said Ms Schumacher. Ms Moenickes was delighted with the wealth of feedback from the alumni and their ideas for the further development of the degree programme. “The feedback from our former students is extremely valuable for the upcoming re-accreditation processes,” said Ms Moenickes.
