Programme structure and content
With a degree in International Taxation and Law, a wide range of exciting career paths are open to you! Our graduates work in fields such as:
- Tax consultancy & auditing – As tax consultancy assistants in one of the ‘Big Four’ tax firms
- Tax departments of multinational companies – advising and managing international tax matters within global organisations
- Management consultancy – Advising companies on tax and legal matters
- Foreign tax authorities – Working in international tax authorities and institutions
- Transfer pricing experts – specialising in international transfer pricing and tax compliance
Many also opt for further training, such as the tax consultant qualification or a Master’s degree at renowned universities worldwide!
Our interdisciplinary programme combines business management expertise with current issues in international taxation:
Semesters 1–3: Teaching of the fundamentals
- Introduction to Business Administration & Economics
- Fundamentals of German and international tax law
- Accounting: bookkeeping, DATEV, IFRS & balance sheet analysis
- Corporate taxation & VAT
- Transfer pricing & double taxation agreements
4th–5th semesters: Specialisation in International Taxation
- International tax planning
- International Tax Policy
- European Tax Law & Anti-Tax Planning Legislation
- Digitalisation and Sustainability
6th semester: Your global perspective – work placement or study abroad!
- Option of an internship semester in companies or tax firms
- Alternatively: a semester of study abroad at one of our international partner universities
- In-depth study of international tax strategies and legal frameworks
7th semester: Your leap into the future
- Completion with a Bachelor’s thesis & Colloquium
To enrol on a Bachelor’s degree programme, you will usually need a qualification giving you access to higher education: a general university entrance qualification, a subject-specific university entrance qualification or a qualification for entry to universities of applied sciences (comprising both academic and practical components).
To apply for our Bachelor’s degree programmes, you need proof of English language proficiency at B2 level. We accept a German Abitur certificate or Fachabitur certificate as proof of B2 level. All applications from candidates with an international school education require one of the following language certificates. If you are unsure whether your qualification is suitable, please contact our Student Advisory Service – we will be happy to help.
You will also need proof of a pre-study placement lasting at least 8 weeks, to be submitted no later than when you re-enrol for the 4th semester.
Online Self-Assessment – International Taxation and Law (BA)
The Online Self-Assessment (OSA) for the International Taxation and Law (BA) degree programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences helps you to assess whether the degree programme’s content and requirements match your interests and abilities.
The OSA provides a realistic impression of tax law, economic and international issues, as well as the expectations of the degree programme.
The OSA offers:
- An assessment of your academic interests and strengths
- Insight into legal, tax and economic course content
- Reflection on your own study and work style
- Support in making an informed choice of degree programme

The OSA is not an Examination or a selection process. Participation is voluntary and non-binding.
Application process
This degree programme has open admission, which means you will automatically be admitted once you have submitted your online application. Your Letter of Admission and all the important information regarding Enrolment will be available to you on Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences Application portal.
You only accept your place on the course once you have officially completed enrolment following your admission. As soon as you have been successfully enrolled, you will be notified by email.
Did you complete your school-leaving qualifications outside of Germany? If so, you’ll need to apply via uni-assist. The platform will guide you step by step through the application process. Your documents will then be checked by uni-assist and, provided you meet the admission requirements, forwarded to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences for a final decision and the issuance of a decision letter. You will then be informed by email.
