What is the student council?

The student council comprises all students within a faculty. You automatically become a member upon Enrolment, and your membership ends upon Deregistration.
For example: anyone who enrols in ‘International Business and Social Sciences’ is a member of the Faculty of Society and Economics student council.

At our university, there is one student council per department – not per Degree programme. In the Faculty of Society and Economics, all Bachelor’s and Master’s students together form the student council. This means you are all part of a strong community that represents your interests and supports you in your studies.

What is the Student Council and what does it do?

The Student Council is your elected representative body within the faculty. It is made up of several students – depending on the size of the faculty: 5 core members plus one member for every 100 students.
For example, if there are 700 students, the Council consists of 12 members.

The Student Council looks after everything that affects you during your studies and acts as your link between students, the faculty and the public. It manages its own funds from student fees and ensures that your interests are heard.

You can find more information in the Statutes of the Society and Economics Student Council, in the Statutes of the Student Parliament (StuPa) and in the Election Regulations.

Contact

As the Student Council, we are here to support all students and prospective students with any questions, suggestions or problems – whether they relate to university life or are of a personal nature – and we do our best to help or to find the right point of contact.

You can contact the Student Council at any time via the following channels:

Email

We always endeavour to respond to all enquiries promptly, but we ask for your patience when decisions need to be made. During the semester breaks, it may take a little longer than usual to respond to your enquiries. If you’d like to speak to us in person, you’re welcome to arrange an appointment at any time.

We’d be particularly delighted to have a chat with you in person. Feel free to pop into our Student Council office (03 EG 014). To be sure of catching us, you can pop in during our weekly office hours. You’ll find the exact day of the week and time on our social media channels.

Alternatively, you can also attend our monthly meetings. We publish the dates for these on social media or via our Moodle course, where you’ll also find further information.
