Putting research and teaching findings into practice – at the leading international trade fair for fitness and health in Cologne

At the FIBO in Cologne, students on the Master’s programme in Health Sciences and Management gained practical insight into how scientific findings from research and teaching are successfully translated into health promotion and prevention initiatives.

Gender medicine, which systematically takes gender-specific differences into account, is also becoming an increasingly important area of focus in sports medicine. The insights gained from this research make it possible to tailor exercise and training programmes specifically to the individual needs of women and men. This not only improves performance but also reduces the risk of injury and aids recovery.

Students on the Master’s programme in Health Sciences and Management at the Faculty of Life Sciences, Rhein Waal University of Applied Sciences, had the opportunity at Fibo in Cologne not only to deepen their knowledge of current developments in gender-specific medicine within sports medicine, but also to explore further questions – such as how to promote an active lifestyle or how to design exercise therapies for chronic conditions based on the latest scientific findings. Furthermore, the students had the opportunity to meet key figures from the health sector in person and forge valuable contacts. The visit was accompanied by Prof. Dr Robert Renner, Professor of Health Promotion and Nutrition and Programme Director of the Master’s programme, and Heike Holtappel, a research assistant at the Faculty of Life Sciences.
