Engineering across all boundaries


A key objective of the degree programmes at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is to ensure that graduates are fully prepared for their careers. Teamwork is an essential part of this. In addition to their specialist knowledge, students at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics have once again demonstrated this semester that – in keeping with their university’s guiding principles – they are able to collaborate in an innovative, interdisciplinary and international manner. On 23 January, 300 students from the third and fifth semesters of the STEM Bachelor’s degree programmes ‘Mechanical Engineering’, ‘Industrial Engineering’, ‘Mechatronic Systems Engineering’, ‘Electronics’ and ‘Science Communication and Bionics’ presented the results of their interdisciplinary collaboration on 23 January.

For an entire afternoon, the machine hall was transformed into a large exhibition space. The teams displayed their findings on a wide variety of topics on posters:

The topics arose from the students’ interests and the specialist areas of the supervising tutors, research assistants and professors within the faculty.

At the exhibition, the students voted the 3D scanner project as their favourite. The projects that went down best with the supervisory panel were the smart cat flap, the smart bicycle lock with a portable key, and the Freshers’ Marketing project. All the winning teams received 250 euros, sponsored by the Förderverein Campus Cleve e.V.; the prize money was presented during the closing ceremony in the Audimax.
