Gender and Diversity, BA

As a graduate in Gender and Diversity, you have learnt to systematically scrutinise structures, analyse issues from different perspectives and develop measures to promote equality and diversity. Professionally, you can apply this in areas such as

• equality work (between women and men, LGBTIQ+ and heterosexual people)
• Integration and participation of migrants
• Anti-racism initiatives
• Inclusion of people with disabilities
• Further training and public relations work on the topics of equality and diversity
• Education for children and adults
• Business and policy consultancy
• Staff development and diversity management

Specifically, our graduates work as trainers, consultants, coaches, Research Associates, assistants and managers in the fields of recruitment / HR / talent acquisition, employer branding, social media, marketing / PR or people & culture. They work in foundations, advice centres, companies, non-profit organisations, clubs, associations, political parties and educational institutions, local authorities and public bodies. In short: wherever social diversity is being shaped.

Semesters 1–3: Fundamentals of Gender and Diversity Studies

• Society, Diversity and Inclusion
• Introduction to research methods
• Social science theories
• Education, Inclusion and Intercultural Perspectives
• Work and organisations

4th – 5th semester: Specialisation in Gender and Diversity

• Consultancy and training for policy, adult education and organisations
• Further topics such as health and anti-discrimination
• In-depth study of research methods
• Specialisation through compulsory elective modules

6th semester: Practical expertise

• Semester abroad or Internship

7th semester: Academic degree

• Projects and career planning
• Bachelor’s thesis and Colloquium

In the 6th semester, you’ll choose between an internship or a semester abroad and develop your skills in a new setting.

To enrol on a Bachelor’s degree programme, you will usually need a University entrance qualification (UEQ): an unrestricted university entrance qualification, a discipline-specific university entrance qualification or an Entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences (comprising both academic and practical components).

To apply for our Bachelor’s degree programmes, you’ll need proof of English language proficiency at B2 level. We accept a German Abitur certificate or Fachabitur certificate as proof of B2 level. All applications from students with an international school education require one of the following language certificates. If you’re unsure whether your certificate is suitable, please contact our Student Advisory Service – we’ll be happy to help. 

You will also need proof of a pre-study placement lasting at least 8 weeks, to be submitted no later than the time of re-registration for a new semester of study.

We do not offer a specific part-time degree programme. If you would like advice on this, please feel free to contact us.

Online Self-Assessment – Gender and Diversity (BA)

The Online Self-Assessment (OSA) for the Gender and Diversity (BA) degree programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences helps you to assess whether your personal interests, expectations and skills align with the degree programme’s requirements.

You’ll gain a realistic insight into key topics, course content and study methods, and can consider whether the programme aligns with your individual goals.

The OSA offers:

• Reflection on interests, values and strengths
• Insight into social, cultural and diversity-related issues
• An assessment of your own learning and working styles
• Support in making an informed decision about your degree programme
