Discover the opportunities available to you at the Faculty of Life Sciences on the Kleve campus! We offer five bachelor’s and three master’s degree programmes (in German and English). Whether you want to find out how farms operate, carry out research in a high-tech laboratory (bioengineering) or follow the journey of our food from field to fork – we’ve got something to suit your interests! Best of all: we always combine scientific expertise directly with exciting hands-on experience in the lab and on field trips to real-world businesses.
Our seven-semester Bachelor’s programmes not only provide you with fundamental specialist knowledge but also equip you with the specific skills in demand in today’s workplace – and that includes a compulsory work placement!
Agribusiness, B.A.: This degree programme combines agricultural knowledge with business administration. It prepares you for management roles in the globalised agri-food sector and emphasises regional development and sustainability. The programme is taught in English.
Bioengineering, B.Sc.: A bridge between biology, chemistry and engineering. This interdisciplinary programme, taught in English, focuses on the development of new materials and technologies for healthcare, agriculture and industry. The programme has restricted admission and is in high demand internationally.
Bio Science and Health, B.Sc.: An applied natural sciences degree programme taught in German, dedicated in particular to the challenges facing the healthcare sector. It combines natural sciences, nutrition and health management.
Quality, Environment, Safety and Hygiene, B.Sc.: The labour market urgently needs specialists in the field of compliance – that is, experts who ensure that rules, laws and standards are adhered to. This German-language degree programme trains precisely such specialists. It combines the natural sciences with legal principles and management in the areas of quality, the environment, occupational and product safety, and hygiene.
Sustainable Agriculture, B.Sc.: An English-language programme dedicated to exploring how agriculture can be made more sustainable worldwide. It combines natural and social sciences with technology, ranging from soil science to precision farming, always with a global focus.
If, after completing your Bachelor’s degree, you wish to delve even deeper into a subject and become an expert, our Master’s programmes (usually 3 semesters full-time) are exactly what you need. Here, you will specialise in a specific area of the life sciences.
Biological Resources, M.Sc.: This English-taught Master’s programme focuses on the sustainable use of biological resources within the context of the bio-based economy. It combines advanced natural sciences with engineering and socio-economics, preparing you for a career as a sustainability expert across a range of sectors. The programme is designed as a double-degree option and can be started in either the summer or winter semester.
Health Sciences and Management, M.Sc.: A German-taught programme that combines health sciences with management skills. It prepares students for leadership roles in the healthcare sector, with a focus on scientifically grounded prevention and health promotion measures, as well as economic management. Students may also commence their studies in either the summer or winter semester.
Food Sciences, M.Sc.: This German-taught Master’s programme examines the entire food supply chain (‘from farm to fork’) from a scientific perspective. It combines disciplines such as biology, chemistry, agricultural sciences and engineering with topics such as food safety, quality management and product development, often in close cooperation with industry.
The 2025/26 winter semester is fast approaching! Your first step towards studying is very simple: one click takes you directly to the HISinOne online application portal if you completed your Abitur in Germany. Applicants with international qualifications should use uni-assist.
For degree programmes without restricted admission – Bio Science and Health, B.Sc., Quality, Environment, Safety and Hygiene, B.Sc., as well as the Master’s programmes in Health Sciences and Management, M.Sc., and Food Sciences, M.Sc. – applications can be submitted until 31 August 2025. For other degree programmes, particularly those with restricted admission (NC), the deadlines may be earlier.
