Biomaterials students at Ipsen

The field trip organised by students on the ‘Materials Production’ module of the Biomaterials Science course took them to a location not far away, but all the more interesting for being a regional site. Accompanied by Prof. Raimund Sicking, 14 students visited the Ipsen site in Kleve, where they were welcomed by Matthias Rink, Head of Process Engineering. He guided the participants around the Ipsen site, which is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of furnaces for the heat treatment of steel and other processes. Surgical scalpels, orthopaedic prostheses, safety components for aeroplanes and cars, and many other high-tech products derive their functionality from heat treatment in an Ipsen vacuum or inert gas furnace. Prof. Raimund Sicking and his students were delighted to see how industrial furnaces are developed and manufactured at Ipsen’s headquarters.

For several years now, there have been a number of projects in which Ipsen has collaborated with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and its students. Following the visit, Prof. Raimund Sicking and Matthias Rink agreed that this collaboration would certainly continue in the future.
