Launch of the Wednesday Academy

Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is once again delighted to invite you to the Wednesday Academy this winter. Under the theme ‘From regional to global – business and society in the current climate’, the series of events offers exciting insights, week after week, into topics that shape our working and personal lives. Experts from academia and the professional world will present current issues in clear, self-contained lectures – well-researched, critical and open to discussion.

The series is aimed at both the general public and students and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Attendance is free of charge, open to anyone interested and does not require prior registration.
The events take place on Wednesdays at 6.00 pm.

Kick-off on Wednesday, 26 November 2025

‘MONOCAB Rijn-Waal – Cross-border cooperation and research’

To mark the launch of the Wednesday Academy, Prof. Dr Ralf Klapdor, Dean and Project Leader,
Dr Wolf Gardian, research assistant in economics and coordinator of the laboratory facilities, and
Sonja Lehmann, research assistant specialising in AI acceptance and non-discriminatory AI,
will provide an insight into the latest research findings from the “MONOCAB Rijn-Waal” project.

The project is being developed in collaboration with the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL) and other partners from Germany and the Netherlands, and is supported by numerous stakeholders from the region. MONOCAB is an innovative, autonomous rail transport technology designed to enable personalised mobility solutions specifically for rural areas. TH OWL is leading the development of this pioneering technology.
