Do your FÖJ where the future is growing sustainably!

Have you finished school and want to do something practical before starting university or your career? Would you like to complete a Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ), get involved in environmental, nature and sustainability issues, and get a taste of campus life at the same time? At Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW), you’ll get stuck in and experience a vibrant, international campus life.

Whether you’ve completed lower secondary school (Realschulabschluss), a vocational baccalaureate (Fachabitur) or the general baccalaureate (Abitur): if you’ve finished your studies and are passionate about environmental issues, you’ve come to the right place.

A FÖJ at a university – what does that mean?

As is the case everywhere else, you’ll learn the theoretical aspects of ecology in the core seminars. But the practical environment we offer is unique. It’s guaranteed never to get boring here. Depending on the site and your specialisation, you can expect a wide variety of tasks. 

  • At the Kleve site, Faculty of Life Sciences: you’ll be lending a hand in the Tropenhaus and, amongst other things, in the modern climate chambers. Here, you’ll care for and research rare plants, support sustainable projects on campus and help with environmental education. You can find more information about the FÖJ at the Tropical House here.
  • At the Kamp-Lintfort site, Faculty of Communication and Environment: You’ll be active in the Green FabLab. In this open, high-tech workshop, you’ll tinker at the intersection of sustainability and technology. You’ll carry out green DIY projects, explore new ecological solutions and help to use resources in a smart, efficient and sustainable way. You can find more information about the Green FabLab here.
