More and more companies, organisations, foundations and private individuals from the region are supporting the Germany Scholarship at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW).

An increasing number of companies, associations, foundations and private individuals from the region are supporting the Germany Scholarship programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW). Additional funding has been secured this year, meaning that 71 HSRW students are now benefiting from a Germany Scholarship. For the forthcoming funding period from 2026 to 2027, the number is expected to rise significantly once again, as funding has been secured from the Bundesverband Credit Management e.V., the Hans Bernd Vetter Foundation, Hülskens Holding GmbH & Co. KG, Planwerkstatt GmbH, Triopt GmbH, the Kleve District Junior Chamber of Commerce (Wirtschaftsjunioren im Kreis Kleve e.V.) and a private individual.

A Germany Scholarship supports students who achieve very good academic results and also demonstrate exceptional commitment. Scholarship holders receive 300 euros per month for one year. The university raises half of this amount from companies, associations, foundations and private individuals. In doing so, it is actively supported by the university’s three friends’ associations – Förderverein Campus Cleve e.V., Förderverein Campus Camp-Lintfort e.V. and Förderverein of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences e.V. The other half is provided by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
The HSRW is responsible for selecting the students to receive funding, though it does take the scholarship providers’ preferences into account. For example, if requested, a subject-specific match between the scholarship recipients and the sponsoring companies can be taken into account. This benefits both sides: students have the chance to get to know companies and interesting employers at an early stage; companies have the opportunity to engage with talented individuals and get to know potential future employees.

Information on the Germany Scholarship
The programme supports high-achieving students with a monthly grant of 300 euros. The funding is initially provided for one year. Sponsors contribute half of the funds, with the other half coming from the federal government. In addition to academic performance, the selection process also takes into account community involvement, a willingness to take on responsibility, and any special social, family or personal circumstances.
Significance for students
Currently, 71 students at HSRW are receiving a Germany Scholarship. In the coming funding period, this figure is expected to rise to 75 scholarships. The scholarships enable students to focus more fully on their studies and realise their potential.
Crowdfunding: many small contributions, a visible impact
The university also pools smaller private donations and relies on crowdfunding campaigns. As soon as 1,800 euros have been raised, a further Germany Scholarship can be established in conjunction with federal funding. Even small amounts thus have a direct impact: they help to create additional funding places and contribute to strengthening the regional pool of skilled workers. Please note: donations are tax-deductible; for amounts of 300 euros or more, the university issues a donation receipt.
