With this qualification, you will be eligible for exciting roles in companies across all sectors, in the public sector, in professional bodies or in engineering firms. As a manager, project manager, developer or consultant, you will develop sustainability strategies, improve product safety, optimise the working environment and health and safety, or reduce environmental impact. Opportunities are equally open to you in production, controlling, logistics, development or sales.

 

• Semesters 1–2 (Foundations): You will build a strong foundation in the natural sciences (chemistry, biology, ecology, physics, mathematics and statistics), combined with the basics of business management, law, project management, communication and marketing.
• Semesters 3–5 (Specialisation): You will deepen your knowledge in specific subjects such as integrated management systems, auditing, occupational health and safety, environmental chemistry and safety engineering. Through compulsory elective modules, you can also focus on areas of your personal interest.
• 6th semester (Internship semester or study abroad): You will gain valuable experience during your Internship semester of at least 20 weeks in a company or undertake a semester of study abroad.
• 7th semester (Final stage): You will take your final compulsory elective modules and successfully complete your degree with your Bachelor’s thesis and the associated Colloquium.

Yes, work placement or a year abroad – the choice is yours!

The 6th semester of your Degree programme is specifically set aside for you to gain valuable practical or international experience. You have the choice between two exciting options:

Internship semester: You’ll undertake an internship in one or more departments of a company, organisation or institution – whether here in the region or abroad. You’ll apply your theoretical knowledge directly in a professional setting, gain practical insight into scientific, technical and economic contexts, and make your first important contacts for your career.

Study semester abroad: Alternatively, you can spend the semester at a foreign-language university anywhere in the world. There, you’ll take courses worth at least 15 ECTS credits, improve your language skills in an authentic environment, and strengthen your intercultural competence so you can confidently engage with other experts in an academic setting. If you’re planning your stay within the European Union, you may be eligible for financial support through Erasmus+.

Whatever you decide, both options will help you develop professionally and personally and look great on your CV.

To start your degree with us, you will need a school-leaving certificate, a vocational school-leaving certificate or a vocational qualification recognised as equivalent (e.g. a master craftsman’s certificate).

• Admission restrictions: The degree programme has open admission (no NC).
• Pre-study internship: You will need to complete an 8-week full-time basic intership (related to quality, the environment, safety, hygiene, production or trade). You do not need to complete this internship before starting your studies; proof of completion must be provided by the time you undergo re-registration for a new semester of study.
• Language: The programme is taught entirely in German, which is why a corresponding level of German (B2) is required.

In accordance with Section 62a of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW), this degree programme is suitable for part-time study.
