The e-learning team supports teaching, learning and Examinations through the targeted use of digital media. Our focus is on the practical integration of technology and pedagogy: working closely with all university departments, we support the development of appropriate digital solutions and promote innovation in teaching and learning. Furthermore, we foster an open culture of sharing knowledge, experience and digital resources.
We operate and manage the central learning platform, Moodle, as well as selected supplementary systems.

Unlike freely accessible AI applications, fobizz provides a data protection-compliant framework for use in a higher education context and enables structured integration into teaching and learning processes.

A key component is the use of Turnitin, the university-wide system for text similarity checking and AI text analysis. Turnitin is directly integrated into Moodle and can be easily used in courses.

As part of the “Path out of your Problems” project, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is developing an AI-based support system in the form of a chatbot to help students deal with their problems and queries. An initial prototype of the chatbot is currently being developed in collaboration with students as well as internal and external counselling services; following the necessary adjustments, it will then be made available free of charge to all students at HSRW.
The use of AI in university counselling provides students with a low-threshold and anonymous first point of contact, thereby facilitating access to counselling services. Depending on the student’s enquiry, the chatbot will either answer it directly or refer them to the appropriate internal or external counselling services.
