General Student Committee (AStA)

The General Student Committee (AStA) is the executive body of the student self-government. It is elected by the Student Parliament (StuPa), which also monitors its performance of its duties.

The AStA at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences consists of the Executive Board and the department heads.

The following departments currently exist:

  • Chair – Responsible for organisation, decision-making, representing the AStA at StuPa meetings and all other tasks not covered by other departments.
  • Finance – Responsible for the budget
  • Campus Representatives for Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort – Deputies for the Chair, organisation of the departments at the respective location, organisational tasks
  • Social Affairs – This department provides assistance with finding accommodation and jobs, dealing with authorities, insurance and other matters relating to student life outside of lectures.
  • International – This department specialises in the specific needs of international students, such as visa matters and other legal issues; it works to integrate international students in Germany and promote appreciation of different cultures
  • KLEvent organises cultural events such as lectures, themed and activity days, film nights or parties.
  • Sports departments organise sporting events to complement the university’s sports programme
  • Higher Education Policy – This department represents the AStA in internal university, regional, state and national committees
  • Political Education – The department’s role is to educate students about the social organisation and democratic institutions of the state and to encourage active participation in political life
  • PR Department supports other departments in promoting events and maintains the AStA’s communication channels such as the website, Facebook page, etc.
  • LGBTQIA+ Department - We support students who identify as gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer, intersex, asexual and beyond.
