Average cost of living
To help you plan your finances effectively, it’s worth taking a look at the average cost of living in Germany. You’ll find a helpful overview on the Studierendenwerk website. On average, you’ll need around €900 to €1,200 per month for rent, food, transport and other expenses.
Semester fee
As a student, you pay a semester fee every term. This consists of administrative charges and the Deutschlandsemesterticket. With this ticket, you can use public transport throughout Germany.
The amount of the fee is set anew each semester.
Good to know: At Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, you do not pay tuition fees, as it is a state university in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Health insurance
You need valid health insurance for your studies. If you are coming from abroad, you can also take out this insurance after your arrival in Germany.
The monthly premium for student health insurance is around 150 euros. If you have any questions, the Study Advisory Service will be happy to help.
Broadcasting licence fee
In Germany, you must pay a broadcasting licence fee. This funds public service broadcasting.
The fee is currently 18.36 euros per month and is charged per household. If you need help communicating with the contribution service, you can contact the Welcome Centre.
