Students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences can have their name and gender entry changed in the databases managed by the university. There are currently four options for recording gender: male, female, diverse, or none specified.
Students are generally advised to obtain the “supplementary ID card” from the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality (DGTI, www.dgti.org) in order to explain the discrepancy between their identity card and their student documents. This card contains the preferred name and gender, as well as the number of the current identity card.

If your degree programme requires a Basic intership, you cannot proceed with re-registration for the 4th semester without having completed this intership. Without proof of this, you will not be able to proceed with re-registration or register for examinations. If you are unsure, it is best to contact your faculty office as soon as possible.
The Centre for Internationalisation and Languages (ZIS) is your first point of contact for any questions regarding a semester abroad. During consultation hours, you can get information on partner universities, application procedures and funding opportunities.
Make sure you find out about the admission requirements and objectives in Section 21 of the General Examination Regulations (RPO) well in advance. You will also need a supervising professor – please enquire about this at your faculty. Information on admission to the practical/study abroad semester can be found on our website. If you would like funding or a place at a partner university, you should contact the Centre for Internationalisation and Languages (ZIS) about a year in advance.
Yes, you must re-enrol on time even if you are spending a semester abroad or on an Internship semester. However, you can apply for an exemption from the Deutschlandsemesterticket fee if you submit your application in good time. It is important that your semester abroad or Internship semester has been officially approved in advance. An exemption is only possible if this is the case.
A leave of absence can only be granted for good cause. You can find out which reasons are accepted in the Enrolment Regulations (§ 9). Please complete the application form in full and email it to Student Services by the deadline, together with the relevant supporting documents.
Your curriculum is part of the examination regulations for your Degree programme and is usually found at the end of the document. You can view the examination regulations online on the university website.
Send an email to Student Services, including your Student ID and your Degree programme. You can then easily download the certificate from the HIS portal as soon as you have received re-registration for a new semester from Student Services.
You can get a refund of your semester fees if you deregister before the start of lectures or withdraw from your course in good time. Important: Deregistration before lectures begin only applies if you completed your studies in the previous semester. If you have already taken Examinations in the new semester, a refund is no longer possible. You can also apply for a refund at any time for overpayments by completing and submitting the relevant form.
If you deregister during the course of the semester, you will only receive a pro-rata refund of the fee for the Deutschlandsemesterticket for the months that have not yet begun. All other parts of the fee are non-refundable.
Not all students receive the ticket automatically; this includes, for example, guest auditors and those enrolled on part-time Degree programmes. Under certain conditions, you may be eligible for an exemption from the fee – details can be found in the relevant application form. During a leave of absence, you can decide for yourself whether you wish to use the ticket. Upon deregistration, your ticket will automatically expire, and any fees for months not yet used will be refunded on a pro rata basis. For further questions, either the NIAG Customer Centre or the AStA are good places to start.
