The Department of Human Resources manages and supports all stages of the employment cycle and acts as a central service provider for the university management, professors, Research Associates and administrative staff. Its activities are governed by the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW) and the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV L). In addition, the Department of Employment Law provides advice on all matters relating to employment law.
The Department of Human Resources is divided into three departments and a staff unit:
- The Personnel Controlling Department is responsible for personnel controlling, MACH PM specialist administration, time recording, teaching assignments and organisational administration.
- The Human Resources Administration Department looks after civil servants, staff on collective agreements and support staff, and is responsible for Workplace Integration Management (BEM).
- The Recruitment and Development Department brings together recruitment, staff development, HR marketing and training.
- The Project Management and Digitalisation Unit manages projects and digitalisation initiatives.
The Legal and Academic Affairs Department is responsible for providing legal advice to the Executive Board and the faculties. This includes, in particular, supporting the procedures for the adoption of university regulations, the legal review of contracts, and the conduct of legal proceedings brought by or against the university.
In the area of committee support, the Senate, the University Council, the University Electoral Assembly and selection committees within the meaning of Section 17(3) of the Higher Education Act (HG) are provided with organisational support and legal advice.
The Department of Student Affairs supports prospective students and current students with all key issues relating to their studies and the organisation of their academic programme. It comprises several service areas:
- The Study Advisory Service provides information and advice to prospective and current students on choosing a degree programme, academic guidance and individual queries relating to their studies. - The Examination Services are the central point of contact for students regarding all key examination matters, particularly regarding registration for and withdrawal from examinations, Transcripts of Records and administrative queries relating to examination management. The Building Management Department is the central point of contact for all matters relating to the university’s buildings and properties. It ensures the safe, efficient and sustainable operation and further development of the university’s infrastructure.
The department is divided into two divisions and a support unit:
- The Operational Building Management Department is responsible for technical and infrastructural building management.
- The Administrative Building Management Department oversees construction and property management as well as commercial building management.
- The Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection Unit coordinates operational health and safety and environmental protection in relation to the university’s properties.
