Programme structure and content
With the broad knowledge and skills you gain during your studies, you can make a real difference. You’ll develop solutions to environmental and energy challenges in areas such as industry, buildings and environmental protection. You can also contribute to projects involving the assessment of natural environments or the regeneration of contaminated sites. Typical career opportunities include engineering and consulting firms, building services and energy technology, environmental organisations and the public sector.
In the first three semesters, you’ll build a solid foundation in the natural sciences and engineering, while also gaining insights into business and IT.
After that, you can shape your studies around your own interests by choosing electives in areas such as technology, the environment, business or public administration. You’ll also team up with other students to work on your own research project.
In your sixth semester, you’ll either complete an internship or spend a semester abroad.
To finish your degree, you’ll write your Bachelor’s thesis and present your work in a final colloquium.

Complete an internship with a company in the environmental or energy sector, or gain international experience by spending a semester abroad. It’s a great opportunity to put your knowledge into practice, build valuable experience and grow both professionally and personally.
In our international degree programme, you’ll study alongside students from all over the world. This gives you plenty of opportunities to improve your English naturally – in class, during projects and in everyday life. Even if your English isn’t perfect when you start, you’ll become more confident step by step, especially when it comes to technical and professional language. By the time you graduate, you’ll be ready for an international career, able to communicate confidently and work effectively in teams across cultures.

For the Environment and Energy degree programme, the following additional requirements apply:
- an interest in environmental science and technical challenges
- English language skills (certificate at level B2 according to the Common European Framework (CEF))
Application process
This degree programme has open admission, which means you will automatically be admitted once you have submitted your online application. Your Letter of Admission and all the important information regarding Enrolment will be available to you on Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences Application portal.
You only accept your place on the course once you have officially completed enrolment following your admission. As soon as you have been successfully enrolled, you will be notified by email.
Did you complete your school-leaving qualifications outside of Germany? If so, you’ll need to apply via uni-assist. The platform will guide you step by step through the application process. Your documents will then be checked by uni-assist and, provided you meet the admission requirements, forwarded to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences for a final decision and the issuance of a decision letter. You will then be informed by email.

All about your studies
Bridging courses are intensive courses designed to help you prepare for your degree before your studies begin. Participation is voluntary and no credit points are awarded. You can use the courses to refresh your existing knowledge and fill in any small gaps before starting your studies.
The courses are held before the start of the winter semester, usually in September. The upcoming course programme will be available at the link below in due course.
