In her talk, ‘The “Day of the Good Life” – A catalyst for sustainable urban development’, on 16 May, Sabrina Cali will provide insights into a citizens’ initiative in Cologne and explain how ideas for a good life are conceived and developed through it.
This year’s theme for the lecture series at the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences not only explores fascinating topics but also reflects the faculty’s thematic and interdisciplinary diversity. In her lecture ‘The “Day of the Good Life” – A catalyst for sustainable urban development’, Sabrina Cali presents the project, which was launched in 2012. She explains how ideas for alternative uses of public space, neighbourhood cooperation and a good life are developed through participatory planning and, as a result, actively shaped. The citizens’ initiative AGORA Cologne enables residents of a Cologne neighbourhood to shape public space for one day exactly as they wish. This ‘Day of Good Living’ serves as a catalyst for sustainable urban development and aims to motivate people to play a creative role in shaping their neighbourhood and to experience it in a new light. The annual project is organised in collaboration with a team of freelance staff and volunteers.
The lecture will take place on 16 May 2018 at 6.00 pm on the Kleve Campus, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in Building 2, Room 02 01 017 (Seminar Room 5).
As part of the Wednesday Academy, current topics are presented in an engaging manner by speakers from academia and professional practice, examined from a theoretical perspective and discussed in a large group. The lecture series is aimed primarily at the general public, but also at students and teaching staff at the university. Attendance is free of charge and no prior registration is required.
