On 20 September 2019, as part of the global, cross-generational Fridays for Future (FFF) general strike, a large-scale demonstration for a better climate will also take place in Kleve.
The fact that Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is actively tackling the impacts of the climate crisis and is committed to raising awareness of the issue was most recently demonstrated by the ‘Lectures for Future’ – an initiative launched, amongst others, by lecturers at the university and which was awarded the ‘Future Skills’ University Pearl for June by the Stifterverband. The theme of sustainability is firmly embedded in the day-to-day operations and philosophy of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and goes hand in hand with its commitment to the FFF movement. For this reason, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be taking part in the locally organised demonstration by the Kleve branch of Fridays for Future through its own activities.
The schedule for the large-scale demonstration on 20 September 2019 is as follows:
from 10.00 am: Opening rally at the smaller car park on Ludwig-Jahn-Straße in Kleve
from 11.00 am: Start of the march to the district administration building and through Kleve town centre (duration: approx. two hours)
approx. 1.00 pm: Return to the rally site, where a large event area with various information stands will be set up. Political discussions, speeches and musical performances will take place on stage until 6.00 pm.
As part of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ active involvement, President Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen will take part in the panel discussion. Professor Dr Joachim Fensterle, Professor of Biotechnology and one of the initiators of Lectures for Future, will give a speech. In addition, the university will have an information stand at the rally venue.
