To mark the International Year of the Reef, Professor James Crabbe, Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Supernumerary Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford University, will give a lecture in London. This will be broadcast live to the Kleve campus.
To mark this global initiative, Professor James Crabbe, Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Supernumerary Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford University, will deliver a lecture broadcast live from London on 9 April 2018 at 7.00 pm, on the initiative of Professor Dr William Megill, Professor of Bionics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Key topics will include aspects of climate change; reflections on why we should care about coral reefs; and reefs in the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, the lecture will examine the effects of environmental stress, adaptation and evolution in extreme environments, and how exactly this can help us understand climate change. The transition from science to nature conservation and some of the latest models of geoengineering and solar radiation management will also be discussed. Last but not least, the lecture will address the question of what we can do to help reefs become resilient so that they can survive in the future.
The event will take place at the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, Room 01.01.006 (Experimental Lecture Theatre).
Attendance is free of charge and no registration is required. However, places are limited. The lecture will be delivered in English.
