With her Bachelor’s thesis, the former student of the “International Business Administration” programme at the Faculty of Communication and Environment (6th year) took second place in the Germany-wide competition for the annual research prize awarded by the Society for Real Estate Research (gif).
At the awards ceremony held as part of the 15th Property Symposium ‘Technology 4.0 – Property 4.0 – University 4.0’, organised by the IRE|BS Institute for Real Estate Economics at the University of Regensburg, she was honoured for her outstanding achievement and received prize money of €750.
Supervised by Professor Dr Frank Zimmer, her thesis explored the growing importance of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the German construction industry. The term ‘Building Information Modelling’ describes a method of networked planning, execution and management of buildings using software. Based on a virtually constructed building model, all relevant building data is digitally modelled, combined and recorded to ensure transparency and seamless communication between project stakeholders. As BIM has not yet been fully implemented in the German construction industry, Ms Overmann investigated the reasons and causes behind the lack of comprehensive implementation in Germany to date.
“By focusing on BIM as an interdisciplinary working method in the construction industry, Ms Overmann has tackled a modern and highly topical subject and achieved outstanding results. We are very proud that she has been honoured with this important award,” emphasises Professor Zimmer.
Since 1995, the gif has awarded an annual property research prize with the aim of promoting research, linking theory and practice, and providing a platform for academic exchange and the transfer of expertise within degree programmes, as well as between academia and industry.
