As part of an exhibition, students on the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Information and Communication Design’ at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be showcasing their photographic work in Kamp-Lintfort on 27 and 28 January 2018. Under the guidance of lecturer Valerie Schmidt, 20 national and international design students explored the question ‘What is photography and how do we experience it?’ creatively during the 2017/2018 winter semester. The results of this semester-long design project are now on display.
The ‘Experiencing Photography’ exhibition will take place on 27 January from 1.00 pm to 8.00 pm and on 28 January 2018 from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm at Kamperdickstraße 8A, 47475 Kamp-Lintfort (ground floor of the corner building at the ‘Neues Rathaus’ bus stop). Visitors can look forward to a wide variety of approaches to photographic performance. These extend far beyond the original meaning of photography as ‘writing with light’. The 22 works on display explore various themes, such as virtual realities, live photographic performances, analogue and perceptual experiments, image translations via neural networks, and self-reflexive and installation-based works. Admission is free.
The Berlin-based photographer Valerie Schmidt studied at the ‘National Academy of the Arts’ in Bergen (Norway) and at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen; in addition to her work as a freelance photographer, she has been a lecturer in photography at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences since 2015.
