The ‘Locals4Students’ mentoring programme is continuing. In the past, numerous members of the public have already taken on the role of mentors, thereby helping many students to settle into their studies.
This year, too, we are looking for mentors or ‘locals’ (the English term for residents) who would like to help students feel at home in their new surroundings. Students from abroad, in particular, look forward to this form of support, as language is often not the only issue. Cultural differences can also present a challenge.
However, it is entirely up to the mentors themselves to decide what they can and wish to offer in their role as advisers. Both the students and the university are grateful for any kind of support. There are no specific requirements that need to be met. However, sufficient language skills to communicate in English are an advantage.
To enable participants to get to know one another and exchange ideas, an information session will take place on 12 December 2017 at 6.00 pm on the Kamp-Lintfort campus of the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, 47475 Kamp-Lintfort, in the canteen, Building 04, ground floor. Admission is free. Registrations can be made via the email address locals4students@hochschule-rhein-waal.de. Refreshments will, of course, be provided.
