The new partnership between Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the InScience film festival in Nijmegen strengthens international cooperation in the region and highlights the university’s academic standards. From 8 to 12 November, science-related films will be screened and accompanying events will be held.
As part of the InScience international film festival in Nijmegen, science-related films – ranging from documentaries to animations – will once again be screened this year. Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is taking part as a partner for the first time. “We are delighted about this new collaboration in our neighbourhood. It demonstrates how important cross-border activities in the region are to us and that, as a university, we want to make the most of every opportunity to communicate scientific topics,” says Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences
The Dutch international science film festival InScience is based on a joint initiative by Radboud University and ‘Arthouse LUX’, the largest arthouse cinema in the Netherlands. The aim of the festival, which has been held annually since 2015, is to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and to foster dialogue between science, art and society. InScience sees itself as a platform for new approaches to communication and exchange on scientific topics. As well as offering an overview of the year’s best science-related films, the programme features numerous other events such as panel discussions, workshops, interactive sessions and exhibitions. In addition, two films will be honoured with the ntr (Dutch public broadcaster) audience award and the student jury award.
The festival takes place from 8 to 12 November in Nijmegen. This year’s theme is ‘No Facts, No Future’ and aims to champion science in the age of ‘alternative facts’. “Against this backdrop, this collaboration is particularly important to us, and we therefore hope to see active participation from students and members of our university,” emphasises Dr Naderer. A ‘Best of InScience’ event is planned for next year on the German side. A carefully curated selection of films is to be screened in a special setting. “In doing so, we are not only highlighting the significance of this partnership for Rein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, but also our commitment to continually bringing scientific topics to the public’s attention,” says Dr Naderer.
