Once again this year, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is taking part in the World Wide Fund for Nature’s Earth Hour. Together with other organisations worldwide, it is sending a clear message in support of protecting the planet and will plunge both its campuses into darkness for one hour on 28 March 2020.
In millions of private homes, in numerous buildings, in public spaces and at landmarks around the world, the lights will be switched off at 8.30 pm local time on 28 March 2020 to send a powerful message about the importance of environmental and climate protection. Earth Hour is now in its fourteenth year and was launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), one of the largest international nature and environmental organisations.
Global warming and climate change present major challenges for us all. As a university committed to sustainability, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences therefore considers it important not only to be part of this global movement, but also to use its participation to clearly voice the call for even greater climate protection. “Although the spread of the coronavirus is presenting us all with major challenges and is shaping the way we all act, it is nevertheless important that the issue of climate and environmental protection is not forgotten. By taking part at both our campuses, we are making a contribution to this,” explains President Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen.
