Last December, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences was recognised in the BMWi’s EXIST-Potentiale competition for its project “StartGlocal – Global Spirit for Local Start-ups”. The project has now been launched as planned. The first courses for the summer term have been finalised.
Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences has now launched its “StartGlocal – Global Spirit for Local Start-ups” project. The project will receive funding under the EXIST-Potentiale programme run by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) for the next four years. The aim is to establish a vibrant and active start-up culture at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. In particular, this is intended to strengthen the local transfer of knowledge and technology, thereby fostering the joint economic and social development of the region and the university.
With the appointment of Adriana Boldisova as project coordinator, ‘StartGlocal’ is now ready to get underway. During the current summer term, start-up coaching sessions are being offered to students and academic staff; these are currently taking place online. The programme is being continuously expanded to include further opportunities for those interested in starting a business. Coordination is being handled by the Centre for Research, Innovation and Transfer (ZFIT). Further staff members are being recruited for this purpose. ‘Start-up Scouts’ within the faculties will assist in the search for innovative ideas and act as points of contact. The project team is set to grow to seven people by the summer.
“Students and researchers can look forward to a wide and innovative range of workshops, business idea competitions, coaching sessions and other support opportunities for their start-up ideas,” says Dr Gerhard Heusipp, project manager at ZFIT. “The regional economy is also set to benefit and will be explicitly involved. ‘Help shape the regional start-up culture with us,’ says Dr Heusipp, inviting companies in the Lower Rhine region to get involved. To this end, the project also offers special initiatives such as the Pressure Cooker Day, Start-up Journeys and the Entrepreneur-in-Residence programme.
