Scholarship Dinner at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences

Thanks to the commitment of businesses and private individuals in the Lower Rhine region, a total of 69 high-achieving students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will receive a Germany Scholarship in the 2016/2017 academic year.

Stefan Finke, Managing Director of the Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V., expressed his thanks to the sponsors on behalf of the organisers and was delighted with the strong commitment shown by regional businesses: “This year, the regional business community is providing the university and its highly talented students with €118,800 in scholarships. This extraordinary commitment demonstrates just how keen companies are to support the students and that there are excellent career prospects in the region.”

Through the scholarship dinner, the three Friends’ Associations, together with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, are expressing their gratitude for the commitment of the scholarship donors, which enables a total of 69 students to be supported. In addition to financial support, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the supporting associations attach particular importance to strengthening the links between the sponsors and their scholarship recipients as potential future talent for the region.

Over a buffet and drinks, the scholarship recipients held interesting discussions with the business representatives present and the members of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences about their studies, career aspirations and professional ambitions, and forged new contacts with companies in the Lower Rhine region. In addition, they were honoured by the university management for their outstanding achievements during a formal certificate presentation ceremony and received a certificate from the Federal Minister of Education, Prof. Dr Johanna Wanka, presented to them by Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

Students with very good academic results can apply for a Germany Scholarship, regardless of their parents’ income. The monthly grant of 150 euros, which is raised by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, its support associations, private sponsors, companies or institutions, is then matched by the federal government. In total, 118,800 euros were donated by private scholarship providers for the funding period in the 2016/2017 academic year. In this way, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is able to award a total of 237,600 euros in scholarship funds to 69 of its top students.

The friends’ associations support the university in recruiting potential donors.
