From 17 to 24 November 2016, the ‘Haus der kleinen Forscher’ in the Kleve district will be presenting the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry for the Environment’s interactive travelling exhibition, ‘NRW wird leiser!’, at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
From 17 to 24 November 2016, the Haus der kleinen Forscher Kreis Kleve at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be hosting the interactive travelling exhibition organised by the NRW Ministry of the Environment, entitled “NRW is getting quieter!”. The travelling exhibition highlights the importance of the sounds produced in the home and the domestic environment for health and well-being. ‘NRW is getting quieter!’ provides information on practical ways in which everyone can reduce or avoid noise, thereby protecting themselves, their families and their neighbours from noise.
The travelling exhibition ‘NRW is getting quieter’ explains how hearing works, when sounds become noise, and how noise affects people. At ten interactive stations, visitors can see, hear and feel a great deal – and get hands-on: for example, they can measure the noise emissions of a tyre by spinning it, or find out just how loud their own MP3 player actually is when held to their ear. Visitors can visualise the sound of their own voice, test various sound-insulating materials and trace the path of sound through the human ear. Thanks to a partnership with the ‘Early Years Education’ Bachelor’s programme at the Faculty of Society and Economy, enthusiastic students are also helping to guide the groups.
School classes and after-school groups from a range of schools have already registered to visit the interactive exhibition, with or without a guided tour. On weekdays, the general public is warmly invited to visit the exhibition in the foyer of Building 4 on the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, from Monday to Friday, 4 pm to 8 pm. LUMBRICUS, the environmental bus, with a hands-on workshop on the topic ‘Noise – Rubbish for the Ears’
In addition to the opening of the travelling exhibition ‘NRW is getting quieter!’, the zdi Centre in the Kleve district, cleverMINT at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, organised an accompanying workshop on 17 November 2016 for two school classes from the Karl-Kisters-Realschule and the Gesamtschule Kleve on the topic of “Noise – Rubbish for the Ears’ in the LUMBRICUS environmental bus. As a mobile classroom and environmental station, the ‘LUMBRICUS’ environmental bus, operated by the Nature and Environmental Protection Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia (NUA), supports environmental education both in and out of school. During the 150-minute workshops, the pupils took part in activities such as noise surveys and mapping noise sources and propagation, and learnt all about noise and its health implications. In addition, the pupils also visited the exhibition ‘NRW is getting quieter’.
