Using green-screen technology, students on the Science Communication & Bionics course first rolled out a virtual red carpet for their professors and then sent them off to the Moon.
Students on the Science Communication & Bionics degree programme now have access to a laboratory where they can put their creative ideas into practice. Unlike other laboratories, however, the Cross-media Production Laboratory – headed by Professor Alexander Gerber – contains no test tubes or microscopes. Instead, students can borrow cameras, microphones, lighting and audio recording equipment, and then edit their work on a computer workstation using the relevant editing software across three screens. The laboratory is also equipped with a green screen, meaning there are no limits to the imagination. At the laboratory’s opening on 10 October 2016, Vice-President Prof. Jens Gebauer, Dean Prof. Thorsten Brandt, Vice-President Prof. Georg Hauck and Prof. Alexander Gerber (from left to right) were filmed in front of this green screen by students Cora Klockenbusch, Lars Lorenz and Arne Sander. The footage was then digitally edited in real time, and guests at the opening were able to watch live as the professors suddenly found themselves opening the lab on the red carpet or even against a lunar landscape backdrop.
