3D printing – Bringing the digital world to life

A two-day workshop for children and young people aged 11 and over on 10 and 17 September 2016 on the topic of 3D printing, to be held at the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg and at the FabLab at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

The workshop ‘Think Digital, Build & 3D Print!’ with Christian Spieß and Christopher Quant uses ‘Minecraft’ – one of the world’s most popular computer games – to introduce children and young people to creative ways of engaging with digital games.

In the open-world game ‘Minecraft’, players can build various structures from 3D blocks and set their own game objectives, including by collaborating with others. Thanks to the different textures of the blocks, landscapes, buildings and figures can be constructed in this digital Lego world.

The source of inspiration is a visit to the ‘On the Surface’ exhibition

What makes this workshop special is that participants can print their own creations as 3D models at the FabLab at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort. At the FabLab, the creative young people have access to several 3D printers that bring the projects they have created in the virtual world into the real world. Participants are welcome to bring their own Minecraft game, though additional accounts are also available.

The participation fee, which includes museum admission and the cost of the models, is 30 euros per person. For further information and to register for the workshop, please contact the Lehmbruck Museum: Tel: 0203/2832195, Email: kunstvermittlung@lehmbruckmuseum.de.
