Today, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences warmly welcomed its new students to the induction week at the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 19 September 2016: The starting signal has been given for a successful degree programme at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. More than 1,000 students began their studies with the start of the induction week on 19 September at the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Dr Heide Naderer, welcomed around 680 ‘freshers’ to the Audimax on the Kleve campus. In Kamp-Lintfort, too, around 330 first-year students were looking forward to the start of their studies.
“By choosing to study at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, you have taken a major step towards your future. I wish you every success in your studies at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and am delighted that we can support you as you lay the foundations for a successful academic career and future,” said Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “Make the most of the university’s international focus. Network with other students and partners from Germany and abroad. Get to know the university during the induction week and, together with your fellow students, draw on plenty of energy and enthusiasm for your time at university.”
Following this, the Mayor of Kleve, Sonja Northing, and the Mayor of Kamp-Lintfort, Prof. Dr Christoph Landscheidt, addressed the new students with a few words of welcome as part of the freshers’ welcome event at the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses; from now on, these students will call these two university towns home for the coming years.
The welcome speeches were followed by the awards ceremony organised by the Association for Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE), presided over by Dr.-Ing. Hans Schüßler, Chair of VDE Lower Rhine, honouring the top student on the ‘Electronics’ Bachelor’s programme, Wonder Gumise, from the Faculty of Technology and Bionics, and the top student on the ‘Media and Communication Informatics’ programme, David Hötten, from the Faculty of Communication and Environment. Every year, VDE Lower Rhine honours students who have achieved particularly good academic results after their first few semesters.
This was followed, for the first time, by the award ceremony for the 1st MAKER Contest organised by FabLab Kamp-Lintfort in collaboration with Sparkasse Duisburg, held on the Kamp-Lintfort campus and presided over by Ulrich Schneidewind, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sparkasse Duisburg. The FabLab is an open, high-tech workshop where innovative ideas are turned into real products. In the competition, three projects were awarded prizes in each of the ‘Useful-Maker’ and ‘Creative-Maker’ categories. The awards recognise projects created in the FabLab that are intended to promote the concept of public use of digital technologies.
The induction week ends on 23 September 2016. Until then, there are still numerous activities organised by the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort on the programme. Information sessions on the individual degree programmes, a campus and town treasure hunt, a ‘bar crawl’, a ‘Homecoming Cup’, a ‘Market’, a student party and many other events where first-year students can get to know their university and its campuses mark the start of an exciting and educational academic year.
