The ‘Meet the Experts’ programme, run by Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the Kleve District Vocational College in Kleve, gave pupils at the Higher Vocational School specialising in automation and information technology their first hands-on insight into university study and opened their eyes to their own study– or career options.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 8 July 2016: The Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the Kleve District Vocational College in Kleve, introduced students studying automation and information technology to university life. Under the motto ‘Meet the Experts’, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Nissing, Vice-Dean of the Faculty and Professor of Control Engineering at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, welcomed the participants to the packed lecture theatre.
The pupils first attended Prof. Nissing’s lecture, ‘Measurement and Control Engineering’, delivered in English. In a subsequent seminar entitled ‘Basics of Control Engineering’, André Neyenhuys and Jochen Verrieth, teachers at the Higher Vocational School, clearly explained the fundamentals of control engineering to the pupils. Armed with their newly acquired knowledge, the pupils then characterised a system as part of a temperature control experiment, using it to describe the system’s dynamic behaviour and analyse its steady state.
Through in-depth discussions with the lecturers from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the integration of theory and practice, the pupils gained a comprehensive insight into studying engineering at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “Although all the sessions were held in English, we were able to understand the key points,” says pupil Jonathan Jones. “We now have another year to improve our English skills and build on them with a view to studying at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.”
