“Three, two, one, hats up” was once again the cry during the past few weeks at the graduation ceremonies for graduates at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve. During the celebrations, the faculties paid tribute to their former students.
Back in May, 80 graduates, together with their families and friends, enjoyed a moving afternoon at the Faculty of Society & Economics, featuring numerous speeches and honours. The event was accompanied by Prof. Dr Thomas Pitz, who provided musical entertainment on the piano with his own compositions. In his speech, the Dean, Prof. Dr Ralf Klapdor, thanked the graduates: “Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Society and Economics are proud of you!” Speaking on behalf of the Executive Board, Prof. Dr Tatiana Zimenkova, Vice-President for International Affairs and Diversity, addressed the graduates and everyone present.
For the ninth time, Katjes Fassin GmbH & Co. KG once again awarded the Katjes Prize, worth 1,000 euros. All final-year dissertations from the Faculty of Society and Economics from the previous year that received a ‘very good’ grade are eligible for nomination. The prize winners are selected jointly by the university and the company. The best thesis is chosen based on the following criteria: the practical relevance of the topic, the innovativeness of the approach, the feasibility of the results and the academic rigour. This year’s Katjes Prize was awarded to Christian Overkämping from the Bachelor’s programme in ‘International Taxation and Law’ for his thesis entitled ‘A Comparison of Japanese and German Corporate Tax Law’.
The faculty then honoured its top Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates: Antonia Franke from the Bachelor’s programme in International Business and Management and Cam Chi Pham from the Master’s programme in Economics and Finance.
Lisa Waberg, coordinator of the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ alumni network, also congratulated all graduates on their academic achievements. She encouraged everyone present to take part in a short alumni quiz, thereby providing information in a light-hearted way about the role and activities of the alumni network.
Finally, the graduation certificates were presented, after which the new graduates had time to catch up with their families and lecturers at a celebratory champagne reception.
After years of study and several pandemic-related semesters spent away from campus, graduates from the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Technology and Bionics celebrated their success together in July.
Prof. Dr Peter Simon and Prof. Dr William Megill presided over the ceremony in the university’s main lecture theatre. Prof. Dr-Ing Peter Kisters, Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Transfer, congratulated the graduates on behalf of the Executive Board. Prof. Dr Peter Scholz, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, and Prof. Dr Dirk Nissing, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Bionics, presented the certificates.
Prof. Dr Dirk Bockmühl, Prof. Dr Matthias Krauledat and Prof. Dr Niels Ostergaard provided live musical accompaniment for the event. After the ceremony, the graduates gathered with their families and friends in front of the Audimax to celebrate this milestone with a glass of sparkling wine and to take the traditional group photo.
