As part of the “Orange your City” campaign organised by UN Women and ZONTA, parts of our campus will be illuminated in orange to send a message against violence against women.
Rein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is also showing its colours and illuminating parts of its campus. “As a cosmopolitan and tolerant university, it is important to us to be part of this initiative. As a sign of this, the crane on the Spoy Canal in Kleve has been bathed in orange light, and a façade in Kamp-Lintfort has been illuminated accordingly,” explains Professor Dr Marion Halfmann, Vice-President for Studies, Teaching and Continuing Education, regarding the university’s participation in the international campaign.
Violence against girls and women is one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. This year’s campaign began on 24 November and ends on 12 December – thus encompassing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November) and Human Rights Day (10 December). This year, as part of the campaign, the lights were switched on in Kleve for the first time, illuminating sculptures, windows, trees and houses in orange.
Residents can support the campaign by displaying an orange light of their own or wearing an orange scarf until the campaign ends on 12 December. Photos of the campaign or of other orange-coloured objects can be posted, shared and liked on the Zonta Club Niederrhein Facebook page.
