In his lecture ‘What Lies Between Everything and Nothing? The Structure of Rational Proofs of God’s Existence in the Light of Modern Logic’, Professor Dr Thomas Pitz explores the question of the validity of proofs of God’s existence.
Attempts to prove the existence of God through reason can already be found in ancient philosophy. Despite Immanuel Kant’s *Critique of Pure Reason*, there have been repeated attempts to substantiate or refute the existence of God using formal logic. Mathematicians aim to demonstrate mathematical correctness using a computer-aided proof process. Is the language of mathematics sufficient to make valid statements about the nature of God and reality?
The lecture will take place on 5 December 2018 at 6.00 pm on the Kleve campus, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in Building 2, Room 02 01 017 (Seminar Room 5).
As part of the Wednesday Academy, current topics are presented in an accessible manner by speakers from academia and professional practice, examined from a theoretical perspective and discussed in a large group. The lecture series is aimed primarily at the general public, but also at students and teaching staff at the university. Attendance is free of charge and no prior registration is required.
